    Superb British Victorian-Era 12th (Prince of Wale's) Royal Lancers Officers' Model 1874 Cap Complete With Red Feather Plume. Black patent-leather body trimmed with gold bullion lace tape and bullion embroidery on the front visor; with a ribbed red wool mortarboard crown accented with bullion cord trim. Gilded-brass starburst backing plate mounted with the 12th Lancers' regimental insignia and bandeaus commemorating their battle honors including Waterloo, Peninsula, South Africa, Egypt, Sevastopol, and Central India. Complete with a gold bullion rosette with "VR" cipher that serves as the holder for a red feather plume; lion head bosses and velvet backed chin chain. Interior is complete with a tan leather sweatband and remnants of a crimson silk head liner. Partial Gieves & Hawks gilt-stamped retailer's label in the crown.

    Condition: Very good to excellent. A beautiful example with only light crazing to the surface finish of the leather body, a bit of light staining and two small moth nips on the top of the mortarboard. As noted the silk interior is mostly missing from the inside with only a remnant that which bears the Gieves & Hawkes gilt-stamped retailer's mark. The feather plume is complete but fragile as you might expect.
