    Southern Cross Medal: Group of United Confederate Veterans Signed Applications.
    Group of fifteen applications for the Southern Cross medal, originating from the UCV Camp #1446 in Pearisburg [Giles County], Virginia. The applications measure 8.5" x 11" and are marked on verso "Certificate of Eligibility For Southern Cross of Honor of United Daughters of the Confederacy". The applications are dated between 1906 and 1908. Most are signed by UCV Captain Frederick G. Thrasher and Adjutant William Williams. Five were members of French's Battery [Stark's Battalion] and surrendered at Appomattox with French on April 9, 1865. Three are signed by Captain David A. French.

    9. Captain Miles A. Francis, Co. K 22nd Virginia Cavalry
    10. 1st Sgt. Lewis Brown, Co. B 30th Virginia Battalion
    11. Private W. H. Carr, 24th Virginia Infantry
    12. Sgt. Josiah W. Cooper, Co. D 24th Virginia Infantry
    13. Private John R. Crawford, Co. D 7th Virginia Infantry
    14. Private Richard Gordon, Co. B 30th Virginia Battalion
    15. Private Samuel Pack, Co B Stark's Battalion Light Artillery
