Prussian Jaeger zu Pferde Model 1915 Enlisted Man's Helmet. A WWI-period helmet featuring a polished blued-steel body trimmed in brass. This example manufactured by Schultz & Holdefleiss, Berlin 1916. Brass dragoon-style eagle plate with soldered-wire mounting loops on the reverse and affixed to the helmet with leather thongs. The short 3 ½-inch spike is mounted to a cruciform base and affixed to the helmet via four domed threaded screws. The helmet is complete with both cockades held to the helmet by slightly-convex gilded-brass chin scales mounted on Model 91 posts. The underside of the front visor retains the majority of the green paint. The leather liner is a recent modern replacement.

Condition: Near excellent. A few trivial small dents to the body and a new liner as noted. Cavalry helmets of the Imperial era display well and can be the centerpiece of any collection. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M. D.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
