    Pennsylvania Militia Hussar Uniform C. 1870. Rather coarse and heavy red wool tailed, cutaway front coatee. Body and sleeves with white cotton lining with lightly quilted breast and one inside pocket. Tails with red silk lining and no pockets. Trim and facings of either black or very dark blue, decorated with 5/8" wide gold bullion tape. 1 1/2" standup collar and 43 Pennsylvania State seal buttons with "Extra Quality" backmark, two missing and several with the faces dented. All buttons retain most of the original gilt. Coat with one 6" seam opening in the center of the back, easily repaired, and several frayed buttonholes, but overall really excellent sound condition with absolutely no mothing. The original fur busby 8" high and 6 1/2" diameter at top. The red wool 'bag' with two rows of worsted wool piping, Red 1 3/4" X 2" worsted wool ball like pom pom attached to the front. 1 1/8" diameter plain convex brass button and leather tab on the underside which attaches to a small brass button to hold the 'bag' in place. Scaled brass chinstrap with large plain brass convex side buttons. Leather drawstring liner, which also serves as the sweatband, excellent and supple. The interior is constructed of stiff burlap-like material and cardboard stiffeners. An attractive and very scarce post-Civil War Pennsylvania uniform utilizing Civil War period Pennsylvania State seal buttons.
