Mint Set Of American Officer's Gilt Epaulettes With The Original Maker's Labels And Housed in the Original Box C. 1845. Absolutely superb condition. With gilt bullion boards end edging. Gilded brass crescents retaining 100% of the original gilt, and triple layers of rather slender 3" gold bullion fringe. Yellow silk undersides mint. 1 1/2" long silvered hook for attaching to the uniform. Each with 1" square glossy black paper label with gilt lettering attached under the pad to the silk, "A. W. Pollard, / Military Goods, / 6 / Court Street / Boston." Labels also in about perfect condition. Housed in the original red paper covered form fitted pasteboard box marked in ink "Gilt Lieut. / 480 R & I" and Pollard's original fancy printed 2 3/4" X 3" paper label. The same label is on the end of the box with "Lieut. written in ink script at the bottom. The name "E. J. Mason" is written in pencil at the top of the label with another name, a bit difficult to discern written at the bottom. Box also about perfect, with the bottom, which also bears the name "Lieut. E. J. Mason" with one edge separated at the seam with no loss. Absolutely the finest we've ever seen for both quality and condition and especially desirable with this period ID.
