    24th Massachusetts Volunteers: Charles H. McCoart Silver I.D. Badge.
    26 mm x 27 mm thin silver shield, engraved: "Chas. H. McCoart/ Co. I/ 24th Regt Mass Vols". Retains hinge and securing loop, but lacks pin. McCoart was a plumber from Cambridge, Massachusetts. He enlisted on September 18, 1861, assigned to the "New England Guards Regiment". The unit went to Annapolis, Maryland and became part of Foster's Brigade, Burnside's Coast Division. The unit fought at Roanoke Island, Newbern (suffering severe losses) and Petersburg.
