Indian Wars: U. S. Army Sword with Racoon Tail. Emerson & Silver (Trenton, N.J.) Model 1860 cavalry sword with metal scabbard, marked with name of manufacturer and "U.S./ D.F.M./ 1864". The brass fitting on the scabbard indicates it was an officer upgrade. The sword is 40" long. A racoon (or some other furry critter) tail with Indian beadwork is attached to the handle with an old red cotton cord. The grip is wrapped in leather and wire with vertical rows of tacks. It would make a wonderful addition to a collection or display of Indian War artifacts. From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
