Imperial German Prussian Guard Officers Spiked Helmet With Brunswick Traditions Badge.

Measuring about 11 ½-inches tall with polished leather skull and visors. The front visor is trimmed in silver; the rear visor is without trim. The impressive silver eagle is mounted with a guard star with the "Suum Cuique" motto. This example with a Brunswick traditions badge mounted just beneath the star. The helmet plate is mounted to the helmet by two threaded posts and nuts. There are no additional holes in the helmet body. A silver spine runs from the edge of the circular base to the edge of the rear visor. The base supports an impressively tall 5 ½-inch spike. The base is mounted to the helmet via four star-head retainers. Flat, gilded brass chin scales are mounted via silver rosettes. The helmet retains both appropriate cockades. The helmet is complete with the 2-inch wide leather sweatband and split-silk lining. The underside of the front visor is lined with green morocco leather; the rear visor lined with red morocco. The helmet is pencil marked size "54 4/3" on the inside and stamped "D.O.V". A very handsome helmet.

Condition: Good. Some tarnishing to the silver, moderate to heavy crazing to the surface of the leather; fraying to the silk liner. From the collection of J.T. Hamrick, M.D.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
