Imperial German Prussian Enlisted Garde Dragoon Regiment 1 Spiked Helmet. An interesting helmet and worthy of proper restoration. The leather body is crushed at the crown. The gilded-brass cruciform base is mounted to the helmet via four round-head studs (one replaced with a silver example). The spike measures approximately 4 ½" tall and the base is decorated with attractive pearling. The large eagle front plate is affixed to the helmet via two threaded lugs and retaining nuts. No additional holes are present. The silver guard star is separately applied to the eagle's breast. The leather-backed, slightly convex chinscales are mounted to the helmet by two rosettes. Both cockades are present but are reversed. The liner is an Uhlan style, with fourteen short, squared off leather fingers. The exterior of the helmet has some light crazing, scuffs, and the crushed crown as previously mentioned. A helmet with much potential and easily restored.
