Imperial German Model 1867 Enlisted Cuirassier Spiked Helmet. Measuring just over 12-inches tall, this impressive helmet features a polished steel body with gilded-brass trim along the edges of the body and visors. The helmet has the distinctive "lobster tail" associated with Imperial Germany's cuirassier cavalry regiments. The 4 ¾-inch tall spike is mounted on a gilded oval base secured to the helmet with four domed threaded retainers. Two of the retainers are secured with larger eye-hook type nuts and the other two are simply held by small square nuts. The helmet is currently fitted with a Baden front plate, though this is an obvious later, and incorrect replacement. As such the helmet has an extra set of holes in the front to accommodate this plate. The underside of the front visor is painted green. Of particular note is the word "Jaeger" stamped on the underside of the trim of the front visor. There are no other readily visible maker or size markings on the helmet. The underside of the rear visor is painted black. Slightly convex gilded-brass chinscales are affixed to the helmet with gilded rosettes and polished steel slotted retainers and secure a single large 2 ¾-inch in diameter cockade. The helmet is complete with a russet-brown eight-finger leather liner.

Condition: Very good to excellent as configured. Extra holes in the body as mentioned and with an incorrect front plate. Two holes on either side of the body underneath the rosettes. Hairline crack in the polished steel spike. Some dryness and cracking to the leather liner. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M.D.
