Prussian Landwehr Foot Artillery NCO or Enlisted Man's Helmet. Measuring approximately 9-inches to the top of the ball. This example with a paper maker's label affixed to the inside body: "M. Neumann...Berlin W." Completed by hand in ink on the label is the size "56 ¾", company number "89" and date "18.08.1904". A gilded-brass eagle front plate with separately applied Landwehr cross is mounted to the helmet via threaded posts and nuts. Two additional holes are in the body. A gilded-brass spine runs from the edge of the neck shield to the spike base. Flat chin scales are mounted to the helmet with simple rosettes. Both cockades are present. The artillery ball measures approximately 3 ½-inches tall. The helmet is complete with a wide kid-leather sweat band. No silk lining though it appears to be as issued.

Condition: Near excellent. With the typical light to moderate crazing on the visor and neck shield, otherwise a handsome example. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M. D.
