Prussian Guard Regiment Model 1897 Officer's Helmet. An attractive example measuring 9 ½-inches to the tip of the spike. Size marked in ink "53" on the inner helmet body. The visor is trimmed in gilded-brass; the neck shield untrimmed. Gilded-brass spine running from the edge of the neck shield to the base of the spike. Featuring a beautifully detailed gilded-brass guard eagle plate with attached guard star. The guard star is beautifully detailed and retains nearly all the delicate enamel work. The plate is attached to the helmet body via threaded posts and nuts. There are no additional holes in the helmet body. Simple gilded-brass rosettes secure the flat brass chin scales and cockades. A 4-inch spike is mounted on a round base and secured to the helmet via threaded four star-head screws. The helmet is complete with 2-inch wide leather liner.

Condition: Near excellent. Minor crazing to the visor and neck shield. Neck shield has come unstitched along a 3-inch section. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M.D.
