Prussian Grenadier Regiment Crown Prince (1st East Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 1) Officers' Spiked Helmet. Measuring approximately 10-inches tall. Leather body with a gilded-brass spine running the length of the rear of the helmet. Front visor trimmed in gilded-brass with green underside. The underside of the rear visor finished in red. Marked size "57" by hand on the interior with an additional size "56 ½" in ink on the leather sweatband. The regiment's distinctive front plate with the "1655" bandeau is affixed to the helmet body with washers and small, square nuts. No extra holes in the body. A 4 ½-inch spike is mounted on a circular base secured to the helmet by four star-head retainers. The helmet features flat, gilded chinscales secured by two rosettes. Retains both cockades. 2-inch wide leather sweatband and silk head liner.

Condition: Very good. The leather has acquired a slight mat finish with uniform light crazing on the body and visors. The front plate has either lost most of the gilding over time or is tarnished to a slightly gray/silver satin finish. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M.D.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
