Prussian Gard du Corps or Gard Cuirassier Helmet. The helmet which is considered by most collectors to be the pinnacle of military headgear, and certainly the most eye catching exhibit in anyone's collection. This attractive, albeit extensively restored, example features an officers' earlier brass, high-domed skull with stepped front visor, all trimmed in nickel. The helmet is maker marked "A. KLUCKE" on the underside of the trim on the front visor and "G d C" is stamped on the skull under the right cockade. The body of the helmet bears signs of extensive repair and restoration. The skull has several additional holes under the plate and some solder repair on the inside dome. Small internal hammer marks are present on the dome. The enlisted eagle has a replacement head, expertly soldered to the original body. The oval base is a bit battered and doesn't lay flush with the skull. The front plate, though original, is likely a later addition during the restoration process. The convex brass chin scales are fully leather backed and they, and the rosettes are later replacements. The enlisted brown leather liner is unmarked and consists of nine leather fingers. The helmet is accompanied by a dress spike, 5" tall on an oval base. A visually appealing helmet, in very good as restored condition.
