    Description

Mexican Officers' Spiked Helmet (Pickelhaube). German made, of lacquered leather with a highly detailed front plate of a spread-wing Mexican eagle and snake in grey metal. The plate may have once been silvered but little, if any traces of the silver remain. The plate is affixed by two screw posts. The helmet has a 4¾" tall spike mounted to a round base with two star-head stud mounts, (lacking the front stud and the rear is simply a brad). The leather-backed flat chinscales were likewise once silvered. The officers' cockades have red tips, a silvered ring of herringbone ribbing, and a green painted center. The interior has a calf-skin sweat band with a scalloped top. The underside of the front visor is green and the rear is red. Under the skullcap is a light pencil notation "53½", the helmet size. The helmet is in very good condition, displaying the usual light crazing to the leather surfaces. A great candidate for the simple restoration needed to bring the helmet back to its former original condition.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
