    Hessen Artillery Officers' Spiked Helmet (Kugelhelm). Measuring approximately 9-inches to the top of the artillery ball. Black leather with gilded-brass trim. Gilded, stamped-brass Hessen front plate mounted to the helmet with threaded posts, washers and retaining nuts. No extra holes. 4-inch tall artillery spike mounted on a cruciform base. Gilded-brass spine running the length of the back of the helmet. Underside of front visor with green lining; underside of rear visor with red lining. Gilded-brass chinscales with plain rosettes. Both cockades present. 2-inch wide leather sweatband with silk head lining.

    Condition: Fair to good. Some loss to the finish with moderate denting to the top of the helmet. Helmet surface with an overall dull patina. Leather sweatband with small insect holes. Shallow dents to the artillery ball. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M.D.
