German Colonial Gendarmerie Non-Commissioned Officer's Spiked Helmet. An interesting helmet with gilded-brass colonial front plate affixed to the helmet via two threaded posts and nuts. There are no additional holes in the body. The front visor is trimmed in gilded brass; the neck shield is unadorned. A gilded-brass spine runs from the edge of the neck shield to the spike base. A 4-inch fluted spike typically associated with gendarmerie helmets is mounted to a round base and held to the helmet via four domed split pins. The flat chin scales are mounted to the helmet via split-pin rosettes. The helmet is complete with a Reich and Prussian state cockade. The helmet is complete with leather liner which features sixteen, short, squared-off fingers.

Condition: Near excellent. Light crazing to the surface of the leather, more so on the visor and neck shield. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M. D.
