British Sixteenth Lancers Post 1902 Other Ranks' Cap. A superb example of a pre-WWI lancer's cap with a black lacquered leather body and visor with blue ribbed top, yellow trim cord and a yellow and red band at the waist. The regiment's scarlet and yellow pompon and black horsehair plume are mounted on the left side of the mortarboard. Leather-backed brass chinchains are attached to lion's head bosses on either side of the cap. The regiment's front plate depicting fifteen battle honors to Aliwal, is mounted to the front via a threaded post and nut. The cap has a leather sweatband and adjustable cloth lining. The inside of the mortarboard is marked "WD" and dated "1911". A small paper label attached to the front of the sweatband identifies the owner as "Allerton", whose name might easily be found in regimental rolls. A handsome cap with the typical crazing to the leather's surface, but in otherwise excellent condition.
