Bavarian Reserve Infantry Officers' Spiked Helmet. Approximately 10-inches tall with leather body and gilded trim. Large Bavarian front plate with applied reservist's cross mounted to the helmet via threaded posts and secured by washers and small square nuts. No extra holes in the body. Gilded brass spine running the length of the rear of the helmet. 5-inch tall fluted spike atop a cruciform base secured to the helmet body by four star-head retainers. Faint size marking which appears to be size 58 on the inner dome of the helmet. No other visible markings. Gilt chinscales held by rosettes retaining both appropriate cockades. 2-inch wide leather sweatband and silk head lining. Underside of front visor lined in green; the underside of the rear visor lined in red.

Condition: Very good. With a few modest scuffs and the usual light surface crazing, but the helmet retain its shape nicely and will display well. Some loss to gilding on the base and spike. Liner shows moderate but honest wear from use; the underside of the rear visor lacking a small portion of the red underlay. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M.D.
