Bavarian Police Officials Spiked Helmet. Measuring approximately 10 ½-inches to the top of the spike. Marked by hand size "58". An attractive helmet with a very tall 5-inch spike on a cruciform base held to the helmet body by four domed split pins. The Bavarian front plate is affixed to the helmet with leather thongs through wire mounting loops. There are no additional holes in the body of the helmet. Ornate lion's head bosses retain slightly convex gilded-brass chin scales. A small 1 ½-inch in diameter Bavarian state cockade is mounted on the wearer's left side of the helmet. A gilded-brass spine runs from the edge of the neck shield to the spike base. The helmet is complete with a wide leather sweat band and silk lining.

Condition: Near excellent. The helmet presents a nice shape and has little of the usual crazing to the surface of the leather. Light to moderate wear to the gilt. A beautiful example that displays well. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M. D.
