Hannover Model 1842 Enlisted Man's Helmet, Circa 1849. A handsome helmet with the basic features of the initial 1842 model but incorporating some minor variations as the design continued its evolution. The helmet measures approximately 13 ½-inches to the tip of the spike. The early, taller body is evident and features a front visor trimmed in gilded-brass and a plain-leather neck shield. The rear of the helmet has a gilded-brass spine affixed to the helmet via three gilded-brass domed screws. The helmet is topped with a 5 ½-inch tall spike mounted on a cruciform base. The front plate is the earlier Hannover style featuring a large nickeled horse above a gilded-brass plain. The plate is affixed to the helmet with brass screws. Gilded, slightly convex chin scales are attached to the helmet via slotted screws through simple rosettes. Complete with single leather cockade and leather liner. No visible maker or size markings present.

Condition: Near excellent. Minor crazing to the surface of the leather, mainly on the visor and neck shield. Both visor and neck shield retain the leather backing. Neck shield a bit misshapen. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M.D.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
