French Second Empire Cuirassier Helmet. Polished metal body with brass trim and accents. Ornate brass comb decorated with volutes and floral leaves, the front bearing a flaming grenade and the face of Medusa. The front top of the comb bears a short red tuft in a brass holder. On the left side of the helmet is a brass plume holder. Black horsehair tail. Leather-backed brass chinscales. The leather liner is absent. The helmet body is slightly dark from age and the brass comb is bent in spots and has replaced screws and rivets at the base. Still, a handsome helmet and excellent addition to the war room or study.
