Amongst various vignettes of tigers (the symbol of the unit), an Illinois state seal, a heraldic eagle, Lady Liberty, and Colonel Ellsworth is the text: "Zouaves Membership Certificate. Quite rare, this is the only one of these we've encountered. Excellent for display and a perfect centerpiece for a Zouaves collection. General toning and light staining, one small dark stain at lower left margin and corner chip. Comes with two CDV's, one being of Elmer Ellsworth with an Anthony/Brady back imprint and one of the Marshal House in Alexandria Va. where Ellsworth was killed with a Bowdoin, Taylor & Co. Alexandria, Va. back imprint. A rare assemblage of Ellsworth material, who is considered the first martyr of the Civil War.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
