Berdan Sharpshooters: William B. Greene Letter. 3-page published letter written on a single sheet of lined paper, folded in half, Camp of the 2nd U.S.S.S., Near Spotsylvania Court House, May 20th 1864. William B. Greene, Co. G., 2nd U.S.S.S. writes home to his mother. Some excerpts: "Last night we marched all night... Reinforcements are continually coming up from Belle Plain & Washington. A Regt. came in yesterday with 2,200 men in it. It was the 15th N.Y.H.A. They went right into the fight and lost heavily. I had a first-rate swim in the Poe river this afternoon. The first chance I have had since I left camp... I visited the 11th N.H.V... They appeared to be glad to see me & I assure you I was glad enough to see them. John Cram is wounded in the leg..." Sold with original transmittal envelope with stamp removed and Washington, D.C. cancellation.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
