Bavarian Kgl. Bayr. 14 Inf. Rgt. "Hartmann" 11. Comp. Nürnberg Glass Top Regimental Reservist Stein. Porcelain, 10½" tall and named to "Hans Fries" whose name also appears on the regimental roster alongside the handle. The body is colorfully decorated with patriotic vignettes and prominently features the regiments shoulder strap within a gilt frame and surmounted by the Bavarian crown. The extraordinary feature of this stein is the wonderful pewter crown top enclosing a glass dome beneath which is a small vignette of a guardhouse and mounted rider. The mounted soldier has unfortunately become loose his mounting solder so he rattles around loose in the top. The thumblift is the typical Bavarian lion and shield. The lithopane is also the typical soldier and sweetheart scene found on the majority of regimental steins. The decoration on this example remains bright and it is free of cracks and chips. The glass dome is intact but is dirty on the inside, else this is a particularly nice example with a most uncommon lid.
