Description[Mexican War]. Lithograph: "The Death of Capt. Walker at Huamantla In Mexico." Measuring 13.5" x 9.5" (sight), this hand-colored lithograph by J. Baillie depicts the death of Texas Ranger Captain Samuel H. Walker, on horseback, pierced with a Mexican lance. The inscription below the title states that, "As he fell he exclaimed, 'Boys, forward, and don't flinch a foot; I know I am dying but don't give way." This is a beautifully illustrated scene; not historically accurate, but dramatic and in the spirit of Walker's heroism. Moderate to heavy soiling at the edges, with some evidence of chipping. A scarce printing in any condition. Framed
