[John Coffee "Jack" Hays]. William G. Cook General Orders Signed Concerning Texas Rangers. One page, 8" x 10", "Adjutant Generals Office Austin," July 10, 1847. Adjutant General William Cooks signs this General Order No. 12 "By order of the [Texas] Governor" announcing the results of the election of colonel and lieutenant for the 1st Regiment of Texas Mounted Volunteers. Jack Hays received the most votes for colonel while Peter H. Bell received the most for lieutenant colonel. In full as written:

"The Result of the election for Colonel, and Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st Regiment of Texas Mounted Volunteers held in the Companies Commanded by Captain's [Samuel] Highsmith, [Jacob] Roberts, [Isaac] Ferguson, [Stephen] Kenzie, [Gabriel] Armstrong, [James] Gillet, and [Alfred] Truitt, is as follows viz : For Colonel John C. Hays received five hundred and seventy six votes, for lieutenant Colonel P. H. Bell received three hundred and thirty four votes M. T. Johnson received two hundred and two votes, and William G. Crump received fifty seven votes. John C. Hays, having received a majority of the vote for Colonel & P H Bell for lieutenant Colonel are declared duly elected and will enter upon the discharge of their duties forthwith."

Organized by Jack Hays, the 1st Regiment of Texas Mounted Volunteers served for twelve months. Hays, thanks to his 576 votes, commanded them the entire time. Later in July, Hays notified General Zachary Taylor that his volunteers were ready for service. Taylor then directed Hays to leave some of his companies along the Texas frontier for protection while the rest-five companies-should march to Mier, Mexico, and await orders. This manuscript is toned with a paper clip dimple and some rust residue in the upper left corner.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
