    Description

[Indian Captivity] Retained Copy of an Autograph Letter by Thomas Neill to Female Captives of the Cheyenne. One and one-half pages, 8" x 10.5", from the "Headquarters Troops in the Field, Camp near Cheyenne Agency, I.T.," January 20, 1875, to "Catherine Elizabeth or to Sophia Louisa Germain White women now in the hands of the hostile Cheyennes with 'Greybeard' or Stone-Calf." In part: "Your sad captivity is known all over the country and every effort will be made to obtain your release as soon as possible. Read this note to Stone-Calf or Grey-Beard and say to Stone-Calf that his message asking peace has been received and that I will receive him and his band upon condition that he shall send you and your sister in first, and then he can come in with his band and give himself up to the mercy of the Government and I will receive him." Slight ink bleeding from the verso not affecting the text; folds. Very fine.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
