    [Civil War]. Confederate Soldier's Letter by P.E. Hedrick. Two pages, 4.8" x 7.8". A letter from Winder Hospital, a Confederate hospital in Richmond dated August 6, 1864. A soldier writes home from the hospital explaining that he was not able to get a furlough as his health was improving. He writes about his earlier experiences in the war: "... as for my writing you enny thing a bout my hard and dangers times that I have had I cant at the present for it wod just make you fear bad but I cal tel you that I have bin in all of it from the wilderness to Peters Burg & never got my skin broak yet but got struck by a ball and hurt me perty bad but I cept shooting back as hard as I could..."

    Condition: Usual mail folds, light soiling. Bit of paper adhered to front affecting a few words at center.
