    Description

[2nd U.S. Cavalry]. Ten Printed Army Orders, 1854-1858, varying in lengths from one page to twelve. Many relate to the 2nd U.S. Cavalry in Texas and list promotions, military trials, charges (most involving drunkenness), regulation updates, and more. Some with ink annotations. The 2nd U.S. Cavalry was organized in 1855 specifically for service in Texas. Secretary of War Jefferson Davis personally chose the members of the elite unit, including officers Robert E. Lee, Albert Sydney Johnston, Kirby Smith, and John Bell Hood. This unit became Lee's final command in the U.S. Army. The regiment left Texas only when ordered out during the secession crisis. Some orders are toned; some with minor tears and stains.
