Civil War Bible Identified To NY 7th Reg. National Guard Soldier.
Bible identified to Edward O. Coles of the New York 7th Reg. National Guard. The identification, which possibly could be in Coles hand, is written on the first page, and date June 4, 1862 while he was in Baltimore, MD. With the bible comes a CDV of Coles with a POWelson, Buffalo / Rochester, NY back imprint. The CDV is excellent, the bible has some light spine wear. In its service in 1861 it lost one enlisted man, and took part in the advance into Virginia on May 24, 1861, and the New York City Draft Riots on July 16, 1863.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
