Silver Plated Copy of Henry II of France Shield, Battle of Cannes.
A silver-plated detailed copy of the original (Original c.1555 currently at the MET, which is embossed and damascened with gold and silver). This example is embossed with a battle scene in the center, thought to depict the victory of Hannibal and the Carthaginians over the Romans in Cannae in 216 B.C. Note: According to notes at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the design of the shield is attributed to the Parisian goldsmith and printmaker Etienne Delaune (1518/19-1853), who probably also designed the armor of Henry II, also in the Museum's Collection. Hallmarked near bottom left with Lion Pasant hallmark and two others not researched or identified. A great detailed copy and example of a historic battle worthy of displaying. 20-inches in length and 17-inches at the widest point.

Condition: Very good. Light age wear, some discoloration and patina overall. Some dings and scuffs to edges.
