Description

Etched and Gilded German Tilting Grand Guard, 19th Century.
Surface is outlined and etched with foliate, gilt with three well centered lions. Plate measures approximately 18-inches in length by 15-inches in width. In the 16th century style, well made but appears to be a Victorian copy. Rivers from the front pierce straight thru the backing. Note: A handsome piece with considerable eye appeal. See, A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor by Stone, Figure 311 for similar example.

Condition: Good to very good for its age. Handling wear present. Some pitting and surface imperfections present. Gilt present but thin in some areas. Please note: Rivet not missing, they are mounting holes for attaching to breast plate. Some minor dents, bruises present. Possibly cleaned at some point.
