    Civil War Bowie Knife Inscribed to Capt R.C. Bailey, 8th U.S. Colored Troops. 11" overall with a 6 1/2" clipped point blade stamped "Manson Sheffield". Blade is gray with scattered small dark areas, pommel of the silver cutlery handle is pushed in. Handle is engraved "Capt R.C. Bailey" on one side and Co B 8th US Col Inf" on the other. Scabbard retains both silver mounts, body shows wear. The 8th US Colored Infantry was heavily engaged during their time in service including action at Chaffin's Farm, Fair Oaks, Hatcher's Run, Petersburg and Appomattox Court House. Captain Romanzo C. Bailey was commissioned Oct 8 1863 and served until April 28 1865.
