    Admiral Richard Byrd: Gold Award Medal and More. 35 mm 14K gold medal titled the "Byrd Distinguished Service Medal". The reverse is engraved: "November 11, 1927 This First Medal is Awarded to Commander Richard Evelyn Byrd, U.S.N.-Ret. A Companion of the Greater Boston Chapter Military Order of the World War. In Recognition of His Flight to the North Pole and His Trans-Atlantic Flight in the 'America' To France". It weighs 25 grams, not including the ribbon hanger. Sold together with 18 other assorted gold medals and badges issued for a variety of disciplines: athletic, sports, scholastics, patriotic, etc. These are stamped 9K, 10K, 12K, 14K and Solid Gold. Two small pieces are not marked, but are believed to be 10K or higher. The weight of these eighteen pieces is 245.1 grams.
