7th Cavalry: A Model 1881 Enlisted Man's Dress Helmet in Superb Condition. Re-creations are seen of this helmet, made from combining various parts from old stock. However, this is a complete and totally original example in near-mint condition. The rare original cords and chinstrap are present, and the patina is consistent throughout. Inside the leather sweatband are stamped "Wm. H. Horstman Philadelphia Feb. ..." (the date has been covered by the interior stitching) and "Chas E. Backett Inspector." One old crack in the front visor, barely noticeable, is the only flaw. While it post-dates the Custer era, nonetheless a great 7th Cavalry display piece of the Indian Wars era.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
