    149th Illinois Volunteer Infantry: Jacob Kaufman Dog Tag.
    30 mm white metal. The obverse reads, at top, "War of 1861" and, at bottom, "Engaged in the Above Battles" within an encircling wreath. The "blank" field is stamped: "Enlisted/ Feb. 6th 18[65]/ 1st ... ent/ [illegible]". The reverse is stamped: "Jacob. Kaufman./ Co. I/ 149th Ill./ Vol. Inf." This unit, organized late in the war, did guard duty in Georgia and Tennessee. The obverse has some areas of loss (degradation of the chrome finish) while the reverse is quite decent.
