    Description

    [Texas Mounted Volunteers]. Petition for Pay for Deceased Texas Ranger James R. J. Fleming. Four integral pages with text on two, 8" x 10", Caldwell County [Texas], May 26, 1851. This document appoints an attorney for "the Estate of James R. J. Fleming deceased late a private in Captain Fords Company of Texas Mounted Volunteers" to receive "all pay that may be due said Fleming deceased for services as private aforesaid to the proper Officer of the United States Government that may be appointed by Said Government to pay Said Company." However, the attorney's name is not written. The document is signed by four witnesses.

    This probate court document is signed by Caldwell County Chief Justice Garrison Greenwood. The verso contains two Texas State blind-embossed paper seals. Light soiling. Ink bleeds through the paper in places.

      our true and lawful attorney for us and in their name to receive and receipt  for all pay that may be due said Fleming deceased for services as private aforesaid to the proper Officer of the United States Government that may be appointed by Said Government to pay Said Company  And to generally do and perform all lawful acts and things whatsoever touching the premises aforesaid hereby ratifying and confirming  all and whatsoever our said attorney may legally do in the premises[?]  In testimony whereof we have hereto set our hand and seals, this 26th of May AD 1851
