    [General Burgoyne Battle of Saratoga]. Jeduthan Baldwin Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 6.75" x 8.75", "Camp 3 miles Above Stillwater, Sept. 12, 1777". While serving as lieutenant colonel in the Continental Army, a letter to his wife concerning the American's confidence in defeating Gen. Burgoyne in battle.

    In part: "This morning our whole army marched from Stillwater to this place. A part of Genl. Starks Brigade 800 marched onto the ground we left. We hear that Genl. Lincoln with his division are at Skeensboro, this we hear by one just come from the Enemy & that Burgoin [sic] will march this Day to meet us. We have got upon the ground we choose to fight him upon. A few days in all probability will determine the fate of this county. [Sept.] 14th yesterday five prisoners were brot [sic] in. They were taken at Saratoga in the morning & stay that Burgoin [sic] by his orders the night before was to march towards us, but have not heard of there [sic] move yet, but expect to hear every minute by some of our scouts. Our Army is numerous-healthy & in high spirits...if Mr. Burgoin [sic] don't run away soon I think his army ought be ours with all he has. God grant us Victory... your most affectionate, Jedun. Baldwin." Burgoyne was defeated less than a week later during the Battle of Saratoga.

    Condition: Age toning, with scattered foxing. Small tears occurring at right have been repaired with cloth tape at an earlier time. Multiple pin holes scattered along left margin.
