Wounded Knee: Another Indian Battlefield Gun. Like the preceding lots, it was picked up by Nellie and Raymond Woodard shortly after the massacre. A detailed notarized letter of provenance from the consignor accompanies the lot.

This is a Marlin Standard Model 1881 .40 caliber rifle, serial #6733, manufactured in 1884. 27.5" octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and rear elevator sight. Blued finish, walnut stock with metal buttplate. Overall good condition, with even gray age patina and moderate surface pitting. Scattered scuffs, scratches, and dings to wood. Action working but requiring adjustment. As would be expected in a gun of much more recent vintage than the preceding lot, it presents well overall.

From the Rathbun Family Collection. See also Lots 51370 through 51412 for additional material from this collection.
