    Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Sporting Rifle.

    Serial no. 151560 [in script style], .44 centerfire caliber, 24-inch round barrel with buckhorn rear sight and bead on blade front sight; dovetailed at muzzle. King's Improvement barrel address. Walnut stocks with steel crescent buttplate and fore-end cap. Manufactured in 1878, making it a 4th Model based on the range of 149,000 to 170,101. Research and quotes with the help of Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms. According to Flayderman's, A premium is placed on round barrels on rifles, as these are less frequently encountered than octagon. [See 5K-033]. Note: This gun last sold at Greg Martin Auctions, Estate Arms Collections Sale, April 27th 2005, Lot 1492.
    Provenance: Property of a Northern California Gentleman.

    Condition: Very good. Overall gun with a gray patina and patches of pitting. Upper tang tapped for peep sight, with flush screws in apertures. Front sight replaced. Brass with wear and patina. Wood with numerous mars and scratches. Some small loses to forearm and forearm edges. Magazine with some dents and bruising. Marred screws. Action good. Bore good.
