    W. Ketland & Co. Flintlock Fullstock Kentucky Rifle.

    Unserialized, approximately .44 caliber, 40-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight, rear elevation sight and peep sight. Lock marked: W. / KETLAND / & CO. Tiger maple full-stock with checkered wrist, decorative silver and brass inlays throughout, cheekrest and floral carvings to left side of stock. Decorative 4-piece brass patchbox to right side of stock. Brass triggerguard and crescent buttplate. Wood ramrod. Note: This rifle comes with a notarized letter from the consignor stating its history, who's great great grandfather was Samuel Pomeroy Colt. Samuel Pomeroy Colt was the son of the brother to Samuel Colt [Inventor of the Colt revolver. This item was acquired in 1987 by the consignor as he and his sister became the beneficiaries of the estate property. He also mentions, this rifle must of been purchased by Pomeroy Colt sometime in his life and that is how it became part of his estate.

    Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with scattered signs of age, handling wear and patches of pitting. Lockplate cleaned at some point. Numerous scuffs and dings present to wood. Some loses including a moon shaped silver inlay absent to right side of forearm. Marred screws throughout. Patchbox has some issues, but functions. Some verdigris present to brass parts. Action functions. Moderately pitted bore.
