    U.S. Springfield Model 1870 Trapdoor Breechloading Rifle. Serial no. 46415, .50 caliber, 32 ½-inch barrel with two steel bands, pedestal front sight and ladder-type rear sight. High-arch case-hardened breech block, the top marked: 1870. Lockplate dated: 1863. Triggerguard tang stamped: P/256. Standard walnut stock with inspector's cartouches. Rare original leather sling. Sling mounts. Approximately 11,533 of this model were manufactured. Cleaning rod. Condition: Very good. Metal lightly polished and showing a rich, mottled grey patina with scattered light pitting present. Breech block and action retaining worn and silvered case-hardening with patina overall. Wood excellent with light wear and light marks present. Sling heavily worn and checked. Action tight and crisp.
