US M1851 Percussion .57 Caliber Smoothbore Cadet Musket Springfield 1853. All metal generally smooth and gray with just some minor pitting around the nipple. Al correct proof and lock markings excellent with 1853 date. Walnut stock with an old well done repair at the wrist and no visible inspectors' marks else very good, just showing some honest wear and use. With the exception of the wrist repair the gun is complete and original in every respect and a good representative example of the musket made famous by the VMI Cadets at the Battle of New Market, Va. in 1864.
