    Unique Steel Nail Decorated U.S. Springfield Model 1861 Percussion Musket. .58 caliber, 40-inch barrel with three steel bands [front sight missing]. Rear sight with aftermarket ladder type rear sight. Breech marked: "V/P". Lockplate marked "U.S. Springfield/1864". Walnut stock with steel furniture. Steel ramrod with tulip tip. Left side of stock at breech inlaid with nail design being a Maltese cross in a circle. Left side of stock with carved initials "ORC". Right side of buttstock with inlaid nail design of an arrow over a cross in a circle and initials "ORC" . Brass capped wooden muzzle plug.

    Condition: Fair. Metal showing a dark age patina with scattered pitting overall. Wood with heavy wear, dents, blemishes and hairline cracks. Action needing repair as hammer will not stay cocked.
