    Spencer Model 1865 Saddle Ring Carbine by Burnside. Serial no. 9789, .52 caliber, 20-inch round barrel with block and blade front and adjustable ladder rear sights. Blued and case-hardened finish. Burnside address on breech. Left side of barrel with inspector's initials J.L.C. Other inspectors' initials observed on left side of receiver, swivel ring mount and lower tang, lever and action. Hardwood stock. Left side behind saddle ring mount with cartouches marked P.L. and G.C. Two sling swivels. Curved steel buttplate containing tube magazine. Top of buttstock with inspector's initials: G.K.O. Very good condition. Barrel retaining approximately 85-90% blue finish with small patches of surface rust at muzzle. Address shows signs of having been polished. Receiver, hammer and lever with slightly muted case colors. Forearm with heavy wear and deep gouges. Front barrel band with scratches and losses to black paint finish. Buttstock retaining much of an old revarnish and showing numerous small dents and moderate losses at toe. Buttplate and magazine cover with vibrant case-colors. Bright three-groove bore.
