    U.S.Model 1879 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle with Bayonet and Scabbard. Serial no. 297941, .45 caliber, 32-1/2-inch barrel with standard military sights. Breech is marked with VP[eagle]P proof marks. Top of breech marked: US/Model/1873. Blued and case-hardened finish. Oiled walnut stock with crescent buttplate marked U.S./S.C. at the heel. Dual sling swivels and cleaning rod. Sold together with bayonet fixed with swivel locking device. Marked US on blade. Steel scabbard with leather frog with NJ medallion.
    Condition: Gun: Very good. Retaining approximately 70-80% original finish toning brown with scattered dents, scratches and patches of surface rust. Lock has been heavily cleaned. Stock very good with moderate age wear and patina. Bayonet: Very good to fine. Retaining approximately 80-85% original finish, thinning somewhat. Losses and wear at socket. Scabbard and frog very good with light age wear and patina.
