    Description

    U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle. Serial no. 457941, .45-70 caliber, 32 1/2-inch round barrel with fixed front and Buffington rear sights. Blued finish with casehardened breechblock and tang. Lock with usual markings [eagle]/U.S./SPRINGFIELD; breech marked U.S./Model/1884. Walnut stock with two barrel bands, two sling swivels and one stacking swivel. Buttplate marked U.S. and S.C. Sold with a U.S. marked socket bayonet.
    Condition: Very good. The barrel and metal retain 85-90% blue finish, however the condition of the metal parts does not match that of the stock. The stock has been sanded and varnished obscuring the inspector's cartouche. Bright bore and crisp action. Bayonet is in excellent condition.
