    Description

    U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle. Serial no. 453892, .45-70 caliber, 32 5/8-inch round barrel with standard military sights. Blued finish with case-colored lock, breechblock and trigger guard. Lock marked [eagle]/U.S./SPRINGFIELD. Breechblock marked US/MODEL/1873. Barrel with the usual proofs. Walnut stock with two barrel bands, two sling swivels, one stacking swivel and cleaning rod. Sold with military-style leather sling. Stock with an 1889 dated inspector's cartouche and circle P firing proof.
    Condition: Very good. Retaining approximately 50-60% case color; the remainder with a smooth brown patina. Powder pitting on the lock and hammer. Stock with dents, shallow scratches and a few light abrasions. Crisp action. Dark bore but with distinct rifling. Leather sling has been repaired.
