U.S. Model 1873 Trapdoor Rifle and Socket Bayonet. Serial no. 180869, 45-70 caliber, 32 5/8-inch round barrel with standard military sights. Blued finish with case-colored lock, breechblock and trigger guard. Lock marked [eagle]/U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1873. Breechblock marked US/MODEL/1884. Barrel with the usual proofs. Walnut stock has been routed to accept the Metcalfe experimental cartridge block. Two barrel bands, two sling swivels, one stacking swivel and cleaning rod. Condition: Very good. Overall plum-brown patina with light surface rust. Stock shows little evidence of use, as would be expected. Crisp action. Bright bore. Bayonet with a mottled finish and light surface rust.
